Goong or Dinh Goong The goong is a multi-stringed bamboo tube zither played by the Gia Rai peoples of the central Vietnamese highlands. It is usually played by young men as an entertainment instrument or to accompany singing. The goong has from 9 to 11 steel strings alternating between groupings of two or three strings and single strings. The goong usually has at least one gourd resonator alternately held against the chest and pulled away to create a wah-wah effect. Often the instrument is called a dinh goong,. Country: Vietnam |
